Code Of Conduct

Thank you for choosing EdVanna (“EdVanna”, “we”, “us”, “our”). Being a part of the EdVanna community means behaving with honesty, respect and kindness to fellow Users. All Users (“User”, “you”, “your”) of the Platform are required to follow the terms of this Code of Conduct (“Agreement”).

Terms not defined in this Agreement shall have the same meaning as assigned in the Terms and Conditions published on the Platform.

You hereby agree to the following terms as follows:

  1. Eligibility

    Any User of the EdVanna Platform must be at least the age of eighteen (18) or the age of majority under applicable laws.

    If you are the parent or guardian of a User under the age of majority (18) and wish to use EdVanna Platform to help with their education you should use your own EdVanna Account to work through the materials with them and take part in any conversations as yourself.

  2. Be Courteous

    1. You agree to be courteous and respectful of others. You shall not use words or share content which may be inflammatory or offensive.

    2. We strictly prohibit unlawful discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, veteran status, nationality, origin, ancestry, pregnancy status, sex, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, mental or physical disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, or any other characteristics protected by law.

    3. Communicating online through text can lead to misunderstandings, so it is important to give other people the benefit of the doubt and be kind in your interactions. Sometimes it’s difficult to know or fully appreciate the situation of the person you are communicating with.

  3. Account

    On your EdVanna profile, we encourage you to use the name that you prefer to be known by in your daily life.

    However, if you have privacy or safety concerns, you are welcome to use a different profile name or to just use an initial for part of it.

    Profile names must not impersonate another person (living or dead), other Users, or brands, and must be in line with the rest of this Agreement.

  4. Personal Details

    EdVanna considers personal contact details to include without limitations email address, postal address or telephone number, or direct communication tools such as Skype or Instagram.

    For safety and privacy reasons, do not put your personal details publicly available comment boxes, you don’t know who might be reading your comment and who may contact you other than the person you thought you were sharing your details with.

  5. VIdeo calling with instructors

    The Platform provides you with the option of video calling Instructors to learn the language efficiently and effectively. By using the video calling option, Users agree to abide by the following:

    1. You shall dress up in smart casuals that are comfortable and decent in appearance;

    2. You shall always strive to arrive on the agreed upon time slots for your scheduled language learning/practicing calls;

    3. You shall not smoke nor be under the influence of alcohol or any other drugs during the course of the call;

    4. You shall use such language that is respectful and courteous for communication during your call; and

    5. You shall not misbehave or do anything to put your fellow User in an uncomfortable position.

  6. Punctuality

    Users shall always strive to be available on the agreed upon time slots. The Learners agree to inform us at least 24 hours beforehand, in case they may be unavailable on a particular day. We may reschedule class on such day by coordinating with the Instructor. In case the Instructor is unable to teach on a particular day, they shall also inform us at least 24 hours beforehand.

  7. Comments and other content

    You warrant and represent that the comments and other contents such as assignments you post are made by you. If you quote anything from an external source, you agree to credit such external source. Do not copy another User’s comment and pretend that it is

    your own. If you wish to quote text from another source, remember to show where it came from. If it’s from the web, include the URL.

  8. Conflict in Ideas

    1. If you disagree with someone’s thoughts or ideas, please discuss them rather than personalising the issue and attacking them.

    2. We consider a personal attack to be any negative comment directed to or about an individual that is about them personally or uses personal information against them.

    3. This applies to comments directed at Instructors as well as Learners, for example comments about the physical appearance of an Instructor in a video.

    4. If a comment is believed to be libellous, it may be hidden for legal reasons.

    5. Do not persistently argue with another Learner or an Instructor. If you aren’t able to resolve your differences, you should stop communicating with them, otherwise you may cease use of the Platform.

  9. Sharing Answers

    Learners shall share their answers if an Instructor requests the Learner to do so. It is important that Learner do so as it is a part of the evaluation process to ascertain the Learner’s abilities and weaknesses.

  10. Compliance with the Law

    You are law-abiding and do not participate in, condone or encourage unlawful or potentially harmful activity including but not limited to threatening or encouraging suicide or self-harm, as well as breach of copyright, defamation, or contempt of court.

  11. Harassment, Discrimination, and Bullying

    We strictly prohibit discrimination, harassment and other forms of bullying including without limits verbal, physical, or visual. If you believe that you are being bullied by anyone, whether by other Users or by EdVanna staff, we recommend you to immediately report the incident to us using the contact information given below or contact the appropriate authorities. We will take action against such persons at our sole discretion.

  12. Improper Payments

    We request all Users to make appropriate payments solely through the EdVanna Platform. Please do not make any payments outside of the EdVanna Platform in any form. We will not be liable if any dispute arises, or any harm is caused to any Users in such cases.

  13. No Advertisements

    1. You are here to learn and not to advertise products or services, and you will not use EdVanna as a platform for campaigning.

    2. It is fine to link to commercial websites when requested to in activity as part of your class or Course. However, if you repeatedly post comments to promote or campaign for something, even if it is not commercial it will be considered spam.

  14. Threat to other Users

    We do not permit Users under any circumstances to send threats of bodily harm or otherwise, whether through the Platform (if applicable) or otherwise via any method including, phone, email etc. Upon our discovery of such an event, we may terminate and permanently ban the Accounts of such Users.

  15. Taking Action

    We continually strive to improve our Platform and Platform Services. If you feel that the Platform and/or the Platform Services provided to you by us is inadequate, please inform us using the contact information given below.

  16. Effects of Violation of this Agreement

    1. Violation of this Agreement may result in a range of actions, including, but not limited to:

      1. Limits on Account privileges

      2. Account suspension

      3. Account cancellation

      4. Permanent ban on the access and use of the Platform.

    2. The actions in this Clause are in addition to and without prejudice to all our additional legal remedies.

  17. Non-Disparagement

    The Users shall not make any false, negative, critical, or disparaging statements, implied or expressed about EdVanna, including, but not limited to, management style, methods of doing business, the quality of the Platform and/or Platform Services, role in the community, or treatment of employees. The Users further agree not to do anything that would damage our reputation or goodwill.

  18. No Spamming

    We encourage our Users not to resort to spamming of any kind including, sending unsolicited commercial messages to other Users. Users engaging in such behaviour and brought to the notice of EdVanna, will be dealt with strictly including in accordance with Clause 19 of this Agreement.

  21. Severability

    If one or more provisions of this Agreement is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable, such provision(s) shall be deemed severable and will not affect the validity and/or enforceability of the remaining provisions of the Agreement, which will remain in full force and effect.
